Last week, we hosted an enthusiastic group of students from the area for our 4th annual STEM Summer Institute, in conjunction with USD 383's program. Our theme this year is "Fill Your Toolbox". As the kids moved from one program area to the next, they constructed, grafted and concocted items to fill their boxes.
The kids started out the week with our admissions team with a scavenger hunt around campus introducing them to Information & Networking Technology, Nursing, Computer-Aided Drafting and many more of our programs of study. At each stop, students pieced together a puzzle before they could move on to the next area.
Later in the week, our faculty introduced the students to the tools of the trade needed to construct a small toolbox. Then, they made their own toothpaste with Dental Hygiene program faculty, grafted cacti with our Biology faculty and even tried their hand at wiring with our Automotive Technology faculty. They also got to stencil their toolboxes using techniques learned in auto collision. Take a look at some of the fun photos on our Facebook page here.
We're about to begin week 2 of the camp with another 15 students. We cannot wait to spark their imaginations with STEM and technical education again this week!
