MLT's prepare and analyze specimens of blood and body fluids using microscopes, analyzers and other sophisticated laboratory equipment and computerized instruments. Lab technicians usually work under the supervision of medical and clinical laboratory technologists.
After completion of the Medical Laboratory Technology program, the student will be eligible to sit for the following certification exams:
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
MLT Program Outcomes
MLT graduates will demonstrate entry level knowledge and competency in all areas of the clinical laboratory.
MLT graduates will demonstrate an average of at least 75% on the Board of Certification exam as calculated by the most recent three year period. For 2012-2014, the MATC MLT graduate certification exam pass rate was 77%.
At least 70% of students who have begun the final half of the MLT program will successfully graduate from the program as calculated by the most recent three year period. For 2012-2014, the graduation rate for MATC MLT students was 96%
MLT graduates will demonstrate an average of at least 70% employment rate either through employment in the field or a closely related field or continue their education within one year of graduation as calculated by the most recent three year period. For 2012-2014, the employment placement rate MATC MLT students was 94%.
