ONLINE CLASSES

Ed2Go offers an enormous selection of courses for personal and professional development that you can take entirely over the Internet. Please note that Ed2Go courses do not grant college credit, and they will NOT transfer to programs at MATC.  They are approved for MyCAA  funding, but typical financial aid and federal student loan and grant program cannot be used for these courses.

http://www.ed2go.com/matech/

MATC recently subscribed to a new group of online certificates and courses available through the LERN network.  These are similar to the Ed2Go courses we began offering a few years ago, although LERN offers some topics not available through Ed2Go.

These courses are for personal and professional development and include topics that are particularly relevant, such as using social media and e-marketing.  This type of partnership enables MATC to offer many more courses than the college would normally be able to offer, and makes new learning opportunities accessible to a wider audience.

As with Ed2Go, students do not receive college credit for the courses, financial aid does not apply, and courses do not transfer to MATC.  The link below will take you to the MATC page on the LERN site and the catalog of courses.

Hands-On Training in
Geographic Information Systems

#1 Making Maps with GIS
March 24-25, 2014

In GIS, making a map is simple, but making a good map can be tough.  It requires an understanding of the data, the audience and the basic concepts of cartography.  In this class, we will discuss all of these ideas and use them to review and evaluate some example maps.  Then we'll get hands-on with ArcGIS to apply these principles and make maps of our own.

Topics:  Understanding the audience, evaluating data, components of a map, the use of color, symbolizing data, making labels, map layout tools

Recommended skill level: Beginner

Schedule for both days:
8:30-11:30 = 3 hours with a break
11:30-1:00 = Lunch
1:00 – 5:00=4 hours with a break

Cost: $425

Instructor: Sherry Massey has worked with GIS for over ten years.  She holds a Master's degree in Geographic Information Sciences and is the GIS Coordinator for Dickinson County.
