ACCUPLACER Assessment Test  

ACCUPLACER tests are used as part of the enrollment process at Manhattan Tech.  They test your knowledge in math, reading, and writing.  ACCUPLACER will be used along with your academic and career goals to assist with your enrollment.  They specifically assess your readiness for certain math and writing courses. 

Who takes the ACCUPLACER:

If this is your first year at Manhattan Tech, or you are transferring here, then you may be required to take an ACCUPLACER assessment in order to complete your enrollment.  To learn about the admissions process please visit Enrollment Information.

If one of the following benchmarks has been met, then an ACCUPLACER assessment is not necessary:

  • GED score of 165 or higher
  • Passed BUS120 & BUS125 with a grade of C or higher
  • Transfer Credit
  • Overall HS GPA of 3.0 or higher + relevant coursework (within 3 years)
  • Qualifying ACT, COMPASS, or previous ACCUPLACER score (within 3 years)
 

If you do not meet one of these benchmarks, then an ACCUPLACER assessment is required. 

Keep the following in mind:

  • ACCUPLACER assessments are not timed
  • The ACCUPLACER Prep Course is open to anyone
  • You can retake any ACCUPLACER assessment
  • ACCUPLACER assessments should be scheduled 
  • Before retaking, you are required to participate in the prep course
  • There is a retest fee of $10.00
  • A report is available after completion
  • You are supplied pencil, paper, and a calculator if applicable
 

ACCUPLACER Prep Course:

Manhattan Tech has designed a short-form, non credit hour course to help students prepare for the ACCUPLACER assessment tests.  This course is open to anyone enrolling at Manhattan Tech.  It is not required for initial testing, but is required for anyone retaking an ACCUPLACER assessment.  For more information contact the Learning Resource Center at LRC@manhattantech.edu, speak with your adviser, or contact the Manhattan Tech Office of Admissions at (785) 587-2800.

Schedule

ACCUPLACER assessments are typically scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fall and spring semesters, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the summer semester.  However, days and times can vary depending on campus activities.  Sessions fill up, so make sure to schedule as soon as possible.

Remote Testing

Manhattan Tech is also an ACCUPLACER remote testing site.  In order for a remote ACCUPLACER test to be given you should contact the institution you will be applying with and ask them about ACCUPLACER remote testing.  A $25 testing fee is required at our testing center for all ACCUPLACER remote tests.

CASAS Reading Test  

Prior to enrollment in a CNA or CMA course, prospective students may be required to complete a CASAS reading assessment.  The CASAS reading assessment is used by Manhattan Tech to qualify enrollment into CNA and CMA continuing education courses.  Even if you are not sure when you might actually enroll in a CNA or CMA class, we advise you to complete this assessment in order to be ready to enroll as new classes are opened.

Who takes the CASAS:

If you are enrolling into a CNA or CMA continuing education course with Manhattan Tech, then you may be required to take the CASAS reading assessment in order to complete your enrollment.  To learn about the admissions process please visit Enrollment Information.

If one of the following waiver conditions has been met, then a CASAS reading assessment is not necessary:

  • Score of Level 4-7 on WorkKeys Reading
  • Score of 236 or higher on Level C-CASAS Reading (within 3 years)
  • Completed English Composition I with a “C” or higher through an accredited college*

*Students must provide Manhattan Tech with a transcript to verify grade.

If you do not meet one of these waiver conditions, then a CASAS reading assessment is required.

Keep the following in mind:

  • CASAS is a paper/pencil test
  • A $5.00 fee is required for all testers
  • You can retake the CASAS if necessary
  • A photo ID is required prior to testing
  • Results are valid for a period of 3 years
  • If testing for another institution, additional info may be required
